Hey there everyone! I recently returned from UIFI- a leadership conference for those in fraternities and sororities. It was a life changing experience. Aside from learning some valuable leadership skills and meeting some awesome people, I was hit by a strong reality: Greek Life is not in the best shape it has been, and if we keep going the direction we’re in, we won’t be around much longer. My second night there, we had a debate about whether or not greek life is an asset to colleges and universities. Unfortunately, the con side won.
While there, we realized that our greek advisors, our allies and advocates are running out of excuses to keep us on campus. We need to act with urgency to better our organizations, and prove to the world that we are definitely more than elitists who just drink, party, and haze. We also talked about how we shouldn’t have to think about whether or not we’re following our Ritual. It should be brainless.
Overall, what do you all think your founders would say if they saw your organization in the shape it’s in today. Do you think your chapter follows the values they set forth when they created your sorority?

UIFI!! We were lucky enough to send 17 members of our community there and they definitely had some rewarding experiences. I’m glad we’re questioning our members about the worth of Greek life because if we can’t identify our value in the world, how can outsiders?
I attended UIFI this summer, too! It’s such an amazon program. I wish that every Greek could experience it. It’s so life changing. I’m so thankful for that opportunity and since it’s nearly impossible for everyone to attend, I’m glad that I was able to go and get the info to take back to my chapter!
Students want to be rewarded. It doesn’t matter is they are 6 or 16, your students want to be rewarded for their hard work. I love giving certificates to my students. There are so many ways to do this! You could give each student a certificate when he or she meets a certain level of a subject, or just reward any hard work you see. Regardless, I love giving my students a tangible form of praise.
This certificate maker by Crayola is one of the best I’ve seen yet, and it’s free! Just register for Crayola newsletter, sign in, and design certificates however you wish! It’s really great! Check it out!
